La Catalina Educational Foundation is a Mexican non-profit organization aiming to raise the educational and economic level of the local people in La Manzanilla, Jalisco.

These students need your help!

We are currently looking for sponsors for these La Manzanilla students . They are selected by their teachers and carefully screened by a selection committee. These students are driven to find a better future for themselves and they have top grades and good conduct.  However, unfortunately many of them will find it increasingly difficult to remain in school without a scholarship.
Scholarships are now at 60%of the original amount as we are almost half way through the school year!
As a sponsor, you have a unique opportunity to make a difference in a student´s life and to make a deeper connection in the La Manzanilla community! To find out more about sponsoring one of these middle school, high school or university students, please contact Nancy at lacatalina.nancy@ or see this webpage. If you are interested in sponsoring a child whose family has a high level of financial need, please inquire and we can indicate which students have the highest need.

John Collins leaves his mark on La Manzanilla and Rebalsito

John Collins served as a volunteer English teacher at the middle schools in La Manznailla and in the nearby village of Rebalsito.  He was passionate about working with the students and giving them the opportunity to learn English.  His students were very fond of him.

John was known for his passion to serve others, his dedication to the pursuit of education, and his love for the outdoors.  Before volunteering in La Manzanilla and Rebalsito, John and his wife Katharine were active volunteers in Comala, Mexico.

John was originally from Seattle, Washington.  He finished his B.A. at Stanford University in 1964, served in the U.S. Peace Corps, then returned to school, completing his Ph.D. in 1974 at Johns Hopkins University.

John passed away on August 6th, 2014 in Seattle, following a brief illness.  He will truly be missed by the many, many, people whose lives he touched!
