Where are you located?
We are located in the town of La Manzanilla, Mexico on the Pacific Coast. La Manzanilla is a small but rapidly growing bi-cultural community consisting of approximately 1500 Mexican residents and a growing foreign population who spend the winters here or come as tourists.
Can I become a member of your organization?
We will be starting a membership program soon. Please check back on our website. Currently, the ways you can get involved are through being a volunteer in our educational programs in La Manzanilla or becoming a program sponsor.
If I give a donation, will I get a receipt with your tax ID number?
Yes, all donors will receive a receipt with La Catalina Foundation’s tax ID number.
Since you are a Mexican non-profit, will my contribution be tax deductible in the US or Canada?
Under investigation…you can also consult with your U.S. or Canadian accountant.
Does your foundation give grants?
Technically, we are an Operating Foundation whose primary purpose is to operate educational programs determined by our board of directors. Some grants may be made outside of the foundation, such as funds awarded to the public schools or grants awarded to teachers, but the majority of the foundation’s funds are expended on its own programs.
Where do you receive your funding sources?
In 2005-07, we received approximately 75% of our funds through individual donors and 25% of our funds through local fundraising events.
How much money do you contribute annually to La Manzanilla schools?
La Catalina Foundation donated approximately 85,000 pesos in 2006 and estimate that we will donate 107,000 pesos in 2007, which is given in the form of a direct contribution or sponsored programs. Additionally, we assist the schools with collecting materials & supplies donations.
What is the relationship between La Catalina Foundation and La Catalina Natural Language School?
La Catalina Natural Language School is a for profit Spanish immersion school also located in La Manzanilla, which was founded on the concept that as the school grows, the local people will receive direct benefit from its growth. La Catalina Natural Language School is committed to helping support La Catalina Foundation and provides them with resources, including free office space, volunteer staff time and some level of funding.
